For the majority of people with schizophrenia, medication is essential in relieving the symptoms
of schizophrenia.2,9

However even when people with schizophrenia are relatively free of their psychotic symptoms, many still have great difficulty dealing with daily life. This might include problems in communicating with people around them, decision making, motivation, self-care and establishing or maintaining relationships with others.1,9 As schizophrenia generally occurs in early adulthood, at a time when people are developing independent social skills and a sense of how they 'fit' in the world around them, these are important areas to consider and psychotherapy might be beneficial.
