Early Treatment

The importance of effective early treatment on disease outcomes.

It is important to get a proper diagnosis of schizophrenia and start treatment as soon as possible (known as reducing the time of untreated psychosis). The earlier that a patient with schizophrenia receives treatment the greater the chance that they will respond and be able to regain their previous level of functioning.1,14,15 By not treating schizophrenia effectively the condition can rapidly decline and hospitalization is more common.16 These aspects can work together to have a negative effect on the patient’s well-being, and that of their family and friends.17,18
